A globally focused research and development organisation is seeking a Technical Project Manager on a contract basis to support cutting-edge artificial intelligence programmes across health, agriculture, climate, and public sector innovation. The work is mission-led, translating high-impact science into real-world solutions at speed, with the aim of addressing some of the most complex challenges facing humanity today.

The organisation is currently expanding its presence in the UK, with a multi-million-pound campus under construction at Oxford Science Park. This role sits at the heart of their AI Operations function, supporting collaborative research and technical deployment efforts. Working within a start-up environment backed by significant resources, this is an opportunity to help shape new systems and frameworks in a high-trust, multidisciplinary environment.

Your role as Technical Project Manager

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and product specialists to scope and deliver AI-focused projects from planning through to deployment

  • Drive agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives, ensuring technical delivery aligns with programme goals

  • Build and maintain real-time dashboards to track delivery milestones, team capacity, risks, and KPIs for executive visibility

  • Automate operational workflows and improve comms between tools (e.g. Jira, Slack) to streamline status tracking and progress reporting

  • Support resource planning, timeline estimation and stakeholder updates alongside senior programme leadership

  • Foster collaborative relationships across disciplines, enabling productive exchanges between researchers and operational teams

 

Experience and qualifications for the Technical Project Manager role

  • Strong experience managing complex AI-related programmes in research or product-led environments, ideally within one or more areas of healthcare, energy, food systems or public sector innovation

  • High proficiency with Jira and agile project management tooling, including dashboard and report setup

  • Proven ability to translate scientific or technical requirements into actionable plans and delivery frameworks

  • Demonstrated stakeholder management experience across technical and non-technical functions

  • Comfortable operating in changeable environments, with a proactive and systems-thinking mindset

  • Experience fostering collaboration in high-trust, multidisciplinary environments, with an ability to simplify complex ideas across diverse groups
